Mr.Tan Yunshan(1898-1983),a great herald of modern Sino-Indian cultural communications,is the founder and first director of Visva-Bharati Cheena-Bhavana(at Santiniketan,India).He deserves the title of “Modern Xuan Zang”because of his life-long dedication to the Sino-Indian friendship cause.His sincerity for this cause has also gained appreciation and support of many celebrities from both countries,like Mahatma Gandhi,Rabindranath Tagore, Jawaharlal Nehru,and Cai Yuanpei,Dai Jitao(Tai Chi-t’ao),Xu Beihong,Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai etc.Having spent more than a half century(1928-1983)in India,Mr.Tan Yunshan has witnessed many important historical events and has made extraordinary contributions to Sino-Indian friendship and cultural communications.
